Two double champions, a triple for Belarus and some Zooming Swedes. It’s packed and it’s frantic in today’s round-up from the Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP)…

BEHIND THE HEADLINES
Beresford aiming for No 1 after second title: It’s been quite a week for Conor “1_conor_b_1” Beresford. The top-ranked British player on Pocket Fives’ rankings won SCOOP-18-M for $38,579 on Monday, and by Friday night he was a double SCOOP champion for 2020. Beresford last night won the $530 buy-in SCOOP-32-H, banking another $85,959. In between that, Beresford twice won tournaments in the PokerStars High Roller Club, for around $21K and $11K respectively, bringing his lifetime online tournament cashes to $10.8 million and leaving him breathing down the neck of Niklas “Lena900” Astedt at the very top of the global rankings. Beresford’s most recent SCOOP title came after he defeated a field of 1,072 entries and beat Brazil’s “great_dant” heads-up, with the Austria-based titan “bencb789” in third.

Another for “Leqenden” in Belarus triple: Beresford was not the only player to win a second SCOOP title of the year last night. “Leqenden“, of Belarus, was the champion in the Mini Thursday Thrill (officially SCOOP-33-L), a $109 buy-in PKO event with a stunning 9,379 runners. Last week, Leqenden defeated a field of 557 to win the Sunday High Roller and so has now pulled off the rarest of feats: winning at both the high and low buy-in price points in a single festival. Including bounties, his latest title came with a $95,405.68 paycheck, which goes into the bankroll already swelled by last week’s $196,648.22 winner’s prize. Leqenden has previously won in WCOOP and has two Super Tuesday titles to his name. (He was also not the only winner from Belarus last night as “XOTTAI5bI4” won the $5.50 NLHE for $8,706.34, beating a field of 15,479 entries and “cooltwister” won the $2,100 NLHE for $108,799.70, in a brilliant treble for Belarusians.)
Vieira joins the party: Joao “Naza114” Vieira is one of PokerStars’ most feared MTT players with three previous titles in SCOOP, and a Player of the Series accolade from 2017. Unusually for this Netherlands-based Portuguese crusher, he had to wait until the second week to win his first title this time, but made it worth the wait. Vieira picked up a total $186,342.05 ($89,119.47 plus $97,222.58 in bounties) when he won SCOOP-33-M. Vieira has arrived. Again.

“tinnoemulder” scoops biggest prize so far: Dutch players are on fire in SCOOP this time around, and “tinnoemulder” continued the red-hot streak last night when he won the $10,300 buy-in High Roller and bagged the biggest cash of the festival so far. tinnoemulder took $113,785.25 from the main prize pool and a staggering $165,000 in bounties for a total payday of $278,785.25. In truth, he earned every penny having emerged from one of the toughest final tables ever assembled. Francisco “Tomatee” Benitez was eighth, Michael “imluckbox” Addamo was seventh, Sam “SamSquid” Grafton was sixth, previous SCOOP winner “WATnlos” was fifth, Thomas “WushuTM” Muehloecker was fourth, Andras “probirs” Nemeth was third and Niklas “Lena900” Astedt was beaten heads up. The total prize pool weighed in at $1.17 million.
Drinan at the double: There’s seemingly no end to the list of familiar champions from this week in SCOOP, and we can add to the list Connor “blanconegro” Drinan, who last night won the $530 buy-in PLO8 for a $34,420 payday.

Zoom favours the Swedes: Swedish players had managed only one SCOOP title between them during this year’s festival — until last night when they won the low and high buy-ins of the same event. That was the Heads Up Turbo Progressive Total KO Zoom event, which paid everything in bounties and depended on fast thinking, heads-up play. That’s how refined these Swedes are these days. “nEfErEfrE” bagged the low title, for $5,168.82, but it was “WhatIfGod” who took down $37,691.13 in the $530 buy-in affair. In 2014, WhatIfGod won two WCOOP titles within a week, but this was his first SCOOP success, having been runner-up in a 2018 Win The Button tournament.
“Premove” in the club: Russia’s “Premove” joined the swelling (but still exclusive) club of multiple ‘COOP champions last night when he added a SCOOP title to a previous WCOOP success. Premove won the $55 PLO8 event this time for $17,635, adding that victory to deuce-to-seven single draw title he won in 2017. His biggest career score came in a SCOOP Sunday Million last year where his third place was worth more than $110K, and with a mastery of so many disciplines, it seems likely we haven’t seen the last of Premove.

COUNTRIES LEADER BOARD
There were first wins of the series for players from Lithuania and Bulgaria on Friday night, but the day belonged to Belarus. Three titles in a single night pushed the eastern Europeans up the countries standings alongside Ukrain, Greece and Austria.
There were two wins apiece for players from Sweden, the UK and the Netherlands, with the latter now edging ahead of Brazil. Brits still top the pile with 18 titles so far.
